Mr Bajic: Bringing the Young in Our Villages

The Serbian Progressive Party’s city Committee held a conference where was presented the work the party’s Councils, respectively its expert bodies that deal with our local community and solutions for it. Although there is an executive authority of City of Uzice, whose primary task is dealing with these problems, the opinion of Serbian Progressive Party is that it’s already proven experts can help in that field. Accordingly, all proposals agreed in the party will be forwarded to the city authorities and presented to citizens. All this was said by Ivana Stojilkovic, the party’s commissioner in Uzice.

One of the many activities was presented by coordinator of the agriculture council, PhD Nikola Bajic. He pointed out that the topic of all programs is  the reviving our villages because there are no more food producers. There are 200 villages in Serbia without population, while in 25 % of the villages population is above of the age of 60. Serbian Progressive Party is working on this problem; hence the budget for agriculture was increased for 50%. The only way to bring back the young there, is to create better life standard. That means improving the infrastructure, roads, water system, sewerage system, ambulances, vet stations, sports stadiums, etc. He pointed out that our biggest fortune is the land itself.
“I am glad that the new minister of agriculture is an expert, an university professor and PhD, and he even lives in the countryside. He promised that he will go round all villages and listen to the producers, and according to that he will make decisions. Two months ago, 50 applications for subventions were dealt, but now are dealing with 1000 of them. All subventions will, probably, be paid off.

Serbian Progressive Party suggests that the young should get more suitable bank loans, smaller interests, and even non-payable loans.
“We lose 30 000 acres of the most fertile land every year. Infrastructure is just there where the best land is. We suggest changing the Inherit Law. In Slovenia the land is inherited by the eldest member of the family. The other members can inherit in some other form like immobility. The aim is not to change the lot.
He also highlighted that the organic producing is very important.

“Every Serbian eats 7 kilos of pesticides, herbicides, insecticides, etc. I always tell the producers to produce the organic food at least for him and why not for the market also. Middle Europe is poisoned by chemicals, and there is our big chance. Today in Europe the producing of organic food is smaller than the market demanding. Our region is especially convenient for this kind of producing. The agriculture expert service of City of Uzice got a wonderful program for cattle breeding, the producing of milk and meat actually. Education for this already started in all municipalities of Zlatibor District. “

PhD Bajic said also that without knowledge, expertise and experience, we can’t get real results.

“We are organizing winter school for agriculture producers on Zlatibor in the end of February, which will last for 7 days for the best producers of our region. The topic will be the organic producing in Western Serbia. So we are making programs, searching for investors, there is also interest, especially from Europe.”
